Overview

Oasis International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the African immigrant community as well as the neighborhoods of West End, Elmwood, Upper Southwest Providence, Lower Southwest Providence, and Washington Park. We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Young Leaders Scholarship. 

The Next Generation Leaders Scholarship is designed to provide supplementary financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education. Its purpose is to support and encourage promising young leaders by helping to offset the costs of tuition and other educational expenses.

Application Submission 

A completed application must be received on or before 11:59 PM, on September 30, 2025. Applications can be submitted to info@oasisri.org. A hard copy may be submitted by mail or in person at 600 Broad Street, Providence, RI 02907.

Eligibility 

1. The student must be a Rhode Island resident. 

The studentmust be a senior, in good standing, in the Fall of 2025, who plans to 

2. attend an accredited university, college, or trade school by Fall of 2026.

3. The student must submit an original essay, of no more than 1,500 words, outlining the importance of community, and the role community has played in  their journey to their post secondary endeavors. (See questions in the  application.) 

4. The completed application must be submitted with the essay & official school  transcripts no later than 11:59 PM, on or before September 30, 2025.

Essay

Oasis International recognizes the vital role that community plays in shaping the lives of young people and the profound impact it can have on their personal and educational journeys. We invite you to thoughtfully address the following prompts in no more than 1,500 words: 

1.What is the significance of community in the lives of young people? 

2.Reflecting on your high school years and as you prepare to pursue higher education, in what ways has your community influenced, supported, or guided you? 

3.How have you contributed to your community, and what specific examples illustrate your involvement and commitment?
